Writing online is a different skill. You’ve still got to seduce the human who wants to be informed and charmed in as few words as possible. But you’ve also got to snare the search engine, and there’s a whole box of tricks to do that, which changes month on month. And pleasing the engine whilst confusing the human is not the answer.

Good SEO and good writing share a lot of aims. Short, descriptive headlines that convey a story in five words, clear messages, getting to the point. I’ve always done that.
